The Swarm – Children Of The Corn

Whoa now. This shirt is in EXCELLENT condition. When the seller says it has only been washed and worn once, I believe him. I have had one or two of these children of the corn tees, and most are pretty cracked up. This one looks great. I still want the one sided tee (features the back print of this tee in a larger size). This one also came on a hooded sweatshirt. Unlike the No Idea shirt (which may still even be in print) or the Final Show shirt (which got a few printings), these barely ever show up on ebay so it’ll be interesting to see where this one goes. The image makes me think of an incident on Chappaquiddick Island even if I know that is not the case.

Vegan Straight Edge. Oh word.

Check the seller’s other auctions has he has 50+ shirts from the late 90s, early 2000s. Lots of dope stuff.

Well? What About My Life?

Oh shit, I’m psyched! Ruination has a new EP out now. Check it out! Ok, not really. No idea who that band is. Some dudes from New York, apparently. The “other” Ruination was a band fronted by Chris Colohan of the Swarm, Cursed, Mature Situations, … They started shortly after The Swarm ended and before Cursed began. Somewhere in there, Countdown To Oblivion occurred too. Throw in Ebro of Charles Bronson, and you have a party. I remember when these schism record shirts first hit the internet. Kids were fighting tooth and nail for them. Now? Things may have quieted down. You’ll probably get the one from harakah69 for a great price. Schism, yo. The back print is super faded on the bottom. That’s actually text that reads, “Well? What About My Life?”

Knee Deep In The Dead

I’m a big Swarm fan. You may or may not know that. Mostly, it stems back to a good friend of mine joining the band, Loubob. I met Lou back in 97. At the time, he was probably the coolest dude I knew. He drove a great car, played in a great band (Barrit), had a hot girlfriend and a giant tv. We’d roll to his apartment to watch football or play Goldeneye (he had the only tv that made 4 player NOT suck). Overall, awesome dude.

Then he moved to Canada.

What’s up with that? Of course, you can blame a girl. It’s always a girl, right? Alex, who played in Acrid. This opened the door to him meeting people in TO and eventually getting a bass playing gig in The Swarm. So it started with me supporting my friend, but quickly turned to me enjoying the hell out of the music. The 10″ is great. As much as I hate weird sized vinyl, the songs are just brutal. You’d catch me moshing to them, no doubt.

We even tried to book them onto this big gig we were throwing at WPI. Bane, Buried Alive and The Swarm. They ended up not being able to make it and we happily substituted Reach The Sky (who were gracious enough to get down with the show on very short notice). I was also supposed to go see The Swarm’s last show gigs, but my ride fell through. Sadly, I was aware that other friends had planned to roll and even had an empty seat. D’oh.

This was the tshirt sold at the last gig. Pretty good look. Oddly, you could still pick these tees up AFTER the gig. I think Eric Z (I think) had the screens and was screening them even a year or two after the band ended. That’s where I got mine.

The only Swarm tee I don’t have (again, I think) was limited to 5. It featured the runaway car logo giant on the front of a black tee. Given to each band member. If anyone has one, hit me up.

Don’t Mess With Texas

I’ve been to many states in the continental US.

I know, I know. Lots of kids in the hardcore scene can claim that these days. Anyone in a band has most checked off.

BUT

I’ve never been in a band. I’m just down for a good road trip. I once drove to California with 2 friends with only 2 days notice. Great trip.

Currently, I’m only missing a few states. Most of them are in the northern middle of the country. Who wants to travel to North Dakota anyway?

One MAJOR state I’ve never been to is Texas. That’s just weak. For such a giant state, you’d think I would have at least driven through it at one point. One day, one day.

Only The No Fun Remain

When Bane recorded Give Blood, we packed a bunch of dudes into a 15 passenger van and drove down to DC. At the time, I was just barely 25 so it was touch and go on whether I could rent it or not. We finally secured the vehicle, rounded everyone in Worcester up, and made the drive.

Lets see if I can remember everyone who made the trip (if I forgot anyone, let me know).

AJ
Cushman
Spaulding
Jeremy
Lou
Beshaw
Hudson
Tre
Big Bob
Myself

People I forgot. Whoops.

E. Mitch

Great ride. I drove the whole way as the rental place wouldn’t have it any other way. Down and back. We broke out late at night and didn’t arrive in DC until the very morning. It was still too early for backup vocals so we hit the local indoor pool.

Not everyone brought shorts. In fact, Lou only had white boxes. Now if you don’t know Lou (from Barrit and The Swarm and …), he’s really, really, really brown. Wet white boxers + brown dude = many unhappy parents. He was asked politely by the pool staff to leave.

Not everyone was down for swimming and in van football. We called them “No Fun.” Cough … Tre … Cough. Lots of shenanigans went down in that van. Lots.

So we rolled back to the studio and were getting ready for backups. Of course, lots of horse play going on in the booth. LOTS.

At one point, Brian Mcternan (I bet you were wondering how’d I work Battery into this, weren’t you?) had to scold us a few times. He even singled Lou out for being too rambunctious.

“Cut it out, dude.”

“Whatever, Brian McDickhead.”

“You know I can hear you, right?”

LOL. These are the times we’ll remember!

Cursed Hooded Sweatshirts

Chris Colohan was the singer of Cursed.

One time, when he was in The Swarm, he came through Worcester with the band.

They stopped at the Lily Pad (an amazing Worcester Vegan joint which is long gone, sadly) and claimed he could eat 6 orders of the most amazing teriyaki sticks. He may have even said he could eat 9 orders.

I think he ate about 1 and a half orders before he threw in the towel. Hahah.

I miss that place. Sniff.

Left For Dead – Reunion Tee

Fuck Your Popularity Contest

I Want To See A Murder Contest

Left For Dead is cool. As cool as Chokehold? Possibly no.

Me? I’ll take The Swarm any day. But I won’t discriminate against these Canadian Rockers. I’m just partial to some vegan straight edge mosh.

Chill tee.

The Swarm – Old Blue Eyes Tee

The Swarm was vegan straight edge. Not a lot of bands could say that IN THE LATE 90s. By that time, everyone had broke edge, started guzzling steaks and doing other stupid shit. Not so with The Swarm. The inevitable didn’t happen there for a few more years (last I checked, Colohan was still edge. Word em up).

For a few years, I had a serious Swarm collection going. At one point, I had the 10″ market covered. In fact, I owned two tour presses and 4 test presses. Yes, that’s correct. Why? No idea*. Just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Funny note about this auction:

tag says Large but fit like an Extra small.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that shirt is tagged YOUTH large. Just a guess.

* did you see what I did there? oh yeah.
