National Edge Day

Not only is today National Edge Day, but it’s also your lucky day. Courtesy of gms.south.philly and netsky_de, you can show your straight edge pride and tell time with style! Grab one of these X-rated swatchs. Please don’t forget, they are 23 years old. That’s old…

Rough one here. Philly keeps it hardcore.

Or go to Germany and scoop this one. The seller actually emailed us the other day about his watch. He found it while cleaning his attic and was curious what it was worth. The condition is great. You can track down original-style bands for cheap so don’t let that prevent you from bidding. Either way, I’m guessing he’ll do quite well for himself. Enjoy!

GTFO With Swatch Guards

xghoulsnightoutx has up an original 1987 X-Rated swatch. Worn by the youth crew, coveted by hardcore kids for over 20 years. The seller claims there is some issue with a broken band. The tip is missing. He then attempts to “make up for it” by throwing in a swatch guard. Seriously? GTFO with that shit. You don’t put a bra on a ferrari, do you? Get the fuck out of here with these swatch guards, especially neon and original guards. Seriously, nothing worse than those original guards. If you thought the Swatch Guard Too was bad, wow, the original, so bad. Whoooofffff.

I have no idea what the fuck he’s attempting to show in this picture since the focus is about 5 feet below the watch. Is there a crack in the plastic back? I’d ask lots of questions here.

X-Rated GB406

colinmurphy00 (no relation) has a good one up. A pretty fresh looking Swatch X-Rated from way back. 1987 to be specific. Swatch didn’t release these specifically with the youth crew in mind, but it worked. Youth Of Today, Bold, … the whole crew was sporting these. Smart look!

What out for this crack near the pin. This could end up screwing you. Well, not completely screwing you. Lots of people have attempted to fix broken cases by super gluing the strap in place. That usually works. Actually, it might not be a bad idea to coat this crack somehow before giving it any heavy wear. The BIN on this watch seems high because of the crack. We shall see.

The x-rated above does NOT come with the original band. Do not, and I repeat, do NOT get the pulsometer (ga106) band and think it will work. It’s very much a light grey and looks goofy. Save your money. You can trust me on this one, as I tried it. Found a cheap pulsometer (like $15 shipped), and tried a band swap. It wasn’t good. You’re better off hitting up squiggly.com where they have the band IN STOCK now.

But maybe you aren’t down with the edge. That’s ok. I’m not going to judge you. Perhaps you’d like this one more. The Marmorata (GB119), also from 1987. Am I the only one, or does this resemble a certain Joy Division cover? Peter Saville should get a cut of these sales …

Want To Build Your Own X-Rated Swatch Maxi?

If you want to build your own X-Rated Swatch Maxi, the first thing you need to do is skip over to robertmaronwatches auction. From there, plunk down a hunk of change. Wait for arrival. While waiting, become REALLY good friends with xjmjx. Maybe he’ll share the blueprints with you. Maybe not. But this is how you start. It doesn’t even look like you’ll need to paint hands …

Swatch X-Rated Maxi With A New Home

Some months back, we were talking about the following X-Rated Maxi Swatch. At the time, we were asking the seller to post up the final display once it happened. Today is that day. Sharp looking room. Take it in, enjoy it.

Swatch X-Rated Maxi

Ladies and Gentlemen,

He’s done it again. xxjjacobyxx has created another X-Rated maxi. That’s 7-8 feet of straight-edge-time-telling goodness. And this one looks even better than his last one! That’s saying something because his last one looked pretty chill.

Swatch never made the x-rated in a maxi (is this right Clevo, or do I recall you picking one up from the Swatch Museum when it closed?) so this is one of your only chances to get something so crucial.

Swatch Irony Chrono – Straight Edge

Someone over in Sweden is either in the know and giving a nod, or is completely out of the loop and has no idea what’s going on in the world.

Way back in 1987, Swatch dropped the X-Rated Swatch (GB406). At the time, it was probably just a Generation X related motif, with some possible new wave connotations. The Youth Crew got a hold of them, and they spread through the scene like a wildfire. It was essentially the most crucial piece of time keeping to finish off your ensemble. But at the time, the X-Rated swatch had NOTHING to do with straight edge.

Flash forward 20 years. Swatch releases a new watch, and it’s called the “Straight Edge” (YCS1006). The name is what perked my ears up. Looking at this watch, you can see no nods towards hardcore, punk or Straight Edge. Maybe it’s just a cool name?

Clevo, thoughts?

X-Rated & Swatch Guards

So you bought a fancy x-rated swatch a few weeks back, and you are afraid to wear it outside your foam padded bedroom. Your afraid it’ll get all scratched up while stage diving to The Mongoloids. That may be the case, but you could always slap one of these over it to give you a minor sense of protection.

Of course, a man I consider wise in all things edge once said to me, “would you put training wheels on a porsche or laminate your Bold Join The Fight tee? No! Then why would you put one of these disgusting looking pieces of plastic on your x-rated swatch?” Much of that is obviously paraphrased, but I think you get the picture. And I tend to agree. While your swatch purchase may not have been inexpensive, sporting it sans guard is the only way to go. Those scratches on the crystal are a badge of pride, in my book. I’ve been wearing my watch every day for the last 10 years, and it has never let me down.

Just check this pic:

Could you see Drew Bold rocking that look in the Bold Rev poster? No way. That’s all I’m saying.

Swatch GB406

The 1987 X-Rated Swatch is perhaps the most crucial item any edgeman can own. It looks good with any outfit, whether it be camo cargo pants and a Wolfpack NYC tee, or a fred perry with a polo (you know, your casual day work gear). It’ll always get stares, and more often than naught, someone will ask if it’s an X-Men watch. If they are a geek, they may ask if it is an X-Files watch. But without a doubt, it’s an amazing item.

Now this one is a little beat up. See the back? That’s an issue. The metal disc that holds the battery in place slides into a groove on the back. But you see where it’s chipped away in two places? That means the metal disc won’t stay in place. It’ll probably fall out a lot (once you buy one, of course). You can press your luck as one of the groove holders appears to be in great shape. Or you could just scoop for a deal and get some tape. Both could work. Of course, the seller doesn’t know if the watch will actually run so it’s a gamble all around.
