Shoes > Hardcore – A Source of Minor Controversy

Weird. In the last week, the Guns Up, Life’s Ill tee has popped up, and now buskenyc brings us the Shoes > Hardcore tshirt. He even brings the LOLs with the description,

A source of minor controversy a few years back.
I disagree with the statement on the back.
The core rules all.

Truth. Guns Up had it wrong on this one. Hardcore is the shit. Sneakers keep your bare feet out of the snow. Big difference. But you know how Dan is. Dude loves the sneakers.

Buske also has the hatched logo style longsleeve. I recall having this longsleeve without the 1917 Records logo on the back. Am I remembering incorrectly, or is this a 2nd pressing of the tee?

Rev ADIDAS.

Ahhh, the Revelation Records Adidas. I’m sure we all know the deal with these by now, there’s no reason to rehash it. Either you think it was a cool idea, or you don’t. And if you do think it’s a cool idea, like cool enough that you want to own a pair, bettysstealsndeals is (still) happy to oblige you in your quest (what is this, the 5th relist? 6th?).

Crucial Kicks.

I’m not going to lie, xsellxoutx is doing something right here. Not only is he playing off of sneaker heads, but he’s also tying it into hardcore heads. Seriously, this is genius marketing. Great work on cross promotion.

Check out this PX pic. Dudes are looking smart. Yale tee, camo shorts and Nike Air Revolutions. Classic straight edge look.

Or go a little further back, and you have SSD sporting Nike Blazers. At this point, I’m guessing most kids were either wearing boots or blazers (not the jacket kind, mind you). Sharp look no matter what the season or reason.

If sneakers are your thing, I suggest you check out our sister site, sneakernoize.com. There is a lot more to say over there when it comes to footwear.

Solid Gold Shoes

Oh boy. nurseassistjoy reminds me of this kid around my way. He’s a good kid, but he seems to think his merch is worth your weight in gold. Not the weight of his merch, but how many lbs (or kg for my euro brethren) you weigh. That’s right. You could trade him a chung king, and he’d give you a Rain On The Parade ep. And then he’d hit you up two weeks later saying you still owed him for that trade. He’d probably expect a Break Down The Walls on red vinyl. It happens.

That seems to be where nurseassistjoy (a zero feedback seller, mind you) is coming from. The opening bid on these Macbeth sneakers is $75. Yes, $75. For shoes that cost $60 brand new and are still available in shops. Hell, you can skank over to ebay and grab some for $35 shipped in almost any size and color. But he claims these are more valuable. The reason? Classic, they are “DEADSTOCK” which means they are no longer made . worn only a couple of times like new. There are a lot things wrong with that statement. In what world (seriously, Mars or ex-Pluto maybe) does deadstock mean “no longer made?” That doesn’t even make sense. “Argh, I killed the stock!!!” For those who don’t know, deadstock means “brand new, unworn.” Not used or discontinued.

Fuck, I sort of want to sit this seller down and give them a two hour tutorial on researching their sale items. Also, please note, they don’t even display the insole. I’m almost certain these don’t even have the Bane song quote in them.

Ugh, frustrating.

Have Heart > Guns Up!

Just kidding, just kidding.

I got equal love for Guns Up and Have Heart. I walked to the last Guns Up gig, that was nice. I moshed at the last Have Heart gig, also nice. Sadly, Revere isn’t walking distance from my house.

First Up, Guns Up “Shoes > Hardcore” tee. This whipped kids into a frenzy. They dropped this shirt as the sneaker head community was really exploding at the seams. It made sense, and kids went gaga for it.

Then you have the Have Heart response, “Hardcore > Shoes” Kids also went gaga for this. Probably more because it was a limited Have Heart tee than the Guns Up reference. That’d be my guess at least. Record release tees got hype.

Gotta agree with Have Heart on this one. Sneakers are cool, but hardcore is awesome.

Have Heart – 08.27.06 Tee

This one is a good play off another tee. The seller claims the back is the shot at Guns Up’s “Sneakers > Hardcore” tee, but in fact, both sides play off of that.

The Guns Up front featured a mass of sneakers. Jordan I-X, some dunks, maybe a few runners. And the back said, “Sneakers > Hardcore.”

Have Heart flips that in a positive way and says “Hardcore > Shoes” by displaying many essential hardcore albums on the front, and the saying on the back. Plus, this came along for the End Of School Jam. Dated shirts are the jam.

Here are some of those crucial albums.

  • Faith/ Void split
  • Negative FX Lp
  • Side By Side – You’re Only Young Once
  • Black Flag – My War
  • Straight Ahead
  • Uniform Choice
  • Infest
  • Insted – Bonds Of Friendship
  • In My Eyes – Nothing To Hide
  • Gorilla Biscuits – S/T EP

Have Heart > Guns Up. Sorry Dan.
