American Nothing For The Smaller Crowd

The only time I saw the band as American Nothing was on the Plea For Peace tour. They played on this backstage outdoor area of an amphitheater…I don’t remember who else played besides them and Poison The Well. It was just weird because they’re one of those bands that was best to see on a small stage with no barrier…obviously this wasn’t the case. I think they also had the heart with wings design. Next time they came through, they were Give Up The Ghost. a_hundred_thousand has a tee which would obviously be from that time frame and on the smaller side. This was a time in the scene when bands carried more smalls and mediums than anything else so finding something in a bigger size is a little more difficult. This one happens to be a Youth Medium so to our smaller readers, this is for you.

American Nothing Screen Test Tee

pcook60526 has an interesting tshirt up. This is the ONLY American Nothing design ever screened. You know, during the post American Nightmare fiasco, but before the Give Up The Ghost name won over. This shirt was printed on black tees and later on red tees, as I recall. But this one is obviously different (anyone black/yellow color blind? Didn’t think so). This one is on a sweet yellow tee, and according to the seller, this one was a “test screen” shirt. These are usually throw away shirts to verify the printing screen came out as designed. I don’t recall ever seeing this shirt in yellow, but I do question if it’s a test shirt. Usually, and I say *usually*, test screen shirts have multiple prints. Front, back, inside, outside, … A few different screens to verify the print. But this one has just ONE screen. It’s possible someone (the drummer? Jarrod??) just showed up to the print shop with a yellow shirt and said, “print me one on this.” Still rare, but different, you know? You decide.

WTF? Give Up The Ghost Denim Jacket

In an interesting move, graysonblanchette777 lists this dirty denim jacket as a Give Up The Ghost American Nightmare Levis Jacket. Thing is, it’s a gross denim jacket with just a Give Up The Ghost (or as I call them, American Nightmare. Speaking of AN, do you think that shitty metal cover band of the same name could cause such a commotion for a reunion gig? I think not. They’d probably be happy to fill their local watering hole with 6 people they are NOT related to… You know what I mean?). But if you like Levi’s denim jackets with one patch sewn on, please, jump on this BIN… Uh huh.

American Nightmare BIN Bonanza

How’s this for a great way to start your weeekend? Looking back on the last decade, I believe that American Nightmare (Give Up The Ghost) will be looked upon as one of the most important hardcore bands of the last 10 years. Always great live, lots of energy and easily one of the loudest bands I’d ever seen. Shop Shogun has been reprinting many of their old designs but 4 of the 5 that fakeplasticluv256 is selling were not reprinted. The last of the 5 (F*ck These Memories) was reprinted but with an added color not in the original. Scoop up an OG and get ready for their shows at the end of the month.

American Nightmare Winter Tour 2000

American Nightmare is one of the last bands I can recall that I used to roadtrip to see. If they were playing within 6 hours of me, I’d get a group of people together and go. Always a good live show, lots of energy and Wes being an absolute maniac on stage. tmm3188 is selling a tour design from the summer of 2000 which, if I recall, the front was later used for another tee. The back was exclusive to this tour (correct me if I’m wrong). The band slowed down after the whole name debacle, releasing one more record under the name “Give Up The Ghost” and then disbanded. This is the era of the band I love, the seven inches and the full length still hold up to this day…I feel like the early 2000s were the opposite of the mid 90s. Early 2000′s = Smalls and Mediums. Mid-90s = XL’s.

The Ice Age Is Coming … For Small People

Size small American Nightmare fans (are there any others? Just kidding. I’m a fan, and I don’t wear a size small …), it’s time for you to rejoice! Seller vaness319 is dropping bombs with these latest round of AN auctions. You get some gems, spanning American Nightmare’s career. Not only that, but some of these are rare gems.

This one has a Wishingwell Records feel. Thoughts?

Hayley Williams would approve …

This one goes back. And the naughty word is so small, mom will never know!

Give Up The Ghost Legs 2

I recall Give Up The Ghost doing TWO shirts with a very similar design to this.

I think it was a Gibby design, but I could be dreaming that.

This one would be the second design of that nature.

The first one had a body completely made up of lettering. This one is just the torso of letters, and actual legs. Throw in those roller skates and it’s a chill look.

Give Up The Ghost Zip Up

AN > GUTG

That’s what I’m saying.

It was always such a shitty deal that some lame bar band from Philly forced American Nightmare to change their name. Obviously one band was jealous of the others success. I mean, not too many bar bands have ever toured europe. And then the b33f over American Nothing was just ridiculous.

AN was also a succinct acronym and American Nightmare had a great ring to it. Give Up The Ghost didn’t have the same appeal. The same can be said for the GHST hood, in my opinion.

Give Up The Ghost – Black On Black Hood

Remember when using the same ink and sweatshirt was the big, new shit?

It was just a few years back. Everyone was getting in on it. Down To Nothing did those white on white tees (a good look, mind you, can’t go wrong with a white tee), Panic did one (I think), a few others surfaced.

Here’s an example from Give Up The Ghost (American Nightmare). The Angel Knife Rock design thing. This feature would become a favorite tattoo piece of hundreds of kids. Me? I prefer the Matt Rinks artwork.

American Nightmare – AN Zip Up

This hood WAS the hot shit of 2002, 2003. Kids were murdering each other to get one of these.

I think it’s ok, but it never wowed me. I always appreciated the non-zip hooded sweatshirt with the harvard-esque logo. Black with red and white ink. Good look.

What about the time Bane was going to release a limited hood with velcro “B” and “E?” That way you could support either band depending on your mood. Good gag.
